How to Select the Correct Size for Boys' Wear
Tips & Suggestions to Selection
The only way to select the correct size is to measure the child and use the size chart shown with the garment you are selecting. Size standards vary widely between manufacturers - and some manufacturers even have different size standards between styles!
So, don't be confused. It doesn't matter his age or the size he wears in clothing from anywhere else. The size charts shown with each garment ARE accurate for that garment. NOTE: The size charts for many boys' wear do NOT allow wearing ease - this is noted on those size charts.
Here we provide a number of tips to help you measure and select the correct size based on all the questions asked over the years.
We guarantee that the garment you will receive will fit the measurements on the size chart for the size you order. Measuring and selecting the correct size is up to you.
Suggestions for Measuring
- Use a non-stretching measuring tape (not string or other than measuring tape).
- Measure over the underwear only - the garments intended to be worn under the garment.
- Take measurements firmly, but do not indent.
- Waistline is right over the 'belly button' or the "fold" when he bends over.
- Compare actual measurements to the chart.
The Single Most Important Rule For Selecting the Right Size
You must order a size that is big enough to fit EVERY measurement of the child. This means that if one measurement requires one size but another measurement requires a larger size, you have to order that larger size or the garment will be too small in that area.
The measurement that dictates the largest size determines the size to order. This is usually a width measurement but can be a length measurement if he is tall and thin. If the child does not fit a specific size well, order the largest size dictated by any one measurement.
Remember - a garment can always be altered locally to be made shorter or taken in, but it usually cannot be let out or lengthened. Alterations can be done locally at your discretion to perfect the fit. We recommend a tailor to alter boy's suits and tuxedos.
For Infant Sizes
Many infant sizes only give an generalized height/weight list for sizes. Most children falling within these parameters will fit these sizes. Yes - "most" - because children come in all shapes and sizes. If you know that your child is especially long or short or is very wide or narrow in a specific area, you must take that into account when selecting the size.
